At Albanian College Tirana II, our High School Programme marks an important stage in each student’s educational journey. Grade 10 represents the beginning of upper-secondary education in the Albanian education system, while for many internationally mobile students, this stage forms part of the broader high school journey that typically spans Grades 9–12. Our international learning environment supports students as they build on the foundations established in Middle School and prepare for the academic, personal and social challenges of their future.
As an English-medium school licensed by the Albanian Ministry of Education, ACT II combines the expectations of the Albanian education system with an internationally minded approach to teaching and learning. We welcome students from diverse backgrounds and value the different languages, cultures, experiences and perspectives they bring to our community.
At ACT II, learning goes beyond the acquisition of subject knowledge. Our concept-driven, inquiry-based approach encourages students to ask meaningful questions, investigate complex issues, evaluate evidence, make connections across disciplines and apply their understanding to real-world situations.
Students are active participants in their learning. Through discussion, collaboration, research, projects, practical investigations and reflection, they develop the confidence to explore unfamiliar ideas, consider different perspectives and take increasing ownership of their educational journey.
Across subjects, teachers use a range of approaches designed to develop critical and creative thinking, communication, research, collaboration and self-management. These Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills help students become independent, reflective and resilient learners who can transfer their knowledge and skills to new contexts.
We believe that successful education develops the whole person. Alongside academic achievement, we nurture students’ social and emotional development, integrity, creativity, empathy, leadership and sense of responsibility.
Our learning environment encourages students to recognise their strengths, learn from challenges, respect different viewpoints and contribute positively to their community. By connecting classroom learning with local and global issues, we help students understand their place in an interconnected world and consider how their knowledge and actions can make a difference.
Our educational philosophy reflects the principles of holistic, inquiry-based and internationally minded education associated with the International Baccalaureate (IB). These principles inform our approach to learning throughout the school, including student agency, conceptual understanding, reflection, meaningful feedback and the development of transferable skills.
ACT II is working towards authorization by the International Baccalaureate to offer the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) in Grades 11–12. The Diploma Programme is designed to challenge students academically while supporting their personal development, intercultural understanding and readiness for further study.
As we progress towards this goal, we continue to strengthen the foundations that prepare students for the demands of senior secondary education: intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, effective communication, academic integrity, independent research, reflection and responsible action.
Our approach to assessment supports these aims. Through formative feedback, opportunities to reflect and improve, and assessment tasks that ask students to apply knowledge and demonstrate understanding, we encourage students to see assessment as an integral part of learning and growth.
At Albanian College Tirana II, we believe that every student has a unique identity, voice and potential. Our school values guide the way we learn, work and grow together. We encourage our students:
These values underpin our commitment to developing young people who are knowledgeable, responsible, creative, compassionate and internationally minded.
High School at ACT II is about more than preparing for examinations or university. It is about equipping young people with the knowledge, skills, confidence and character to navigate an increasingly complex world.
We want our graduates to leave us ready to pursue further education, embrace new opportunities, build meaningful relationships and contribute to their communities. Above all, we want them to remain curious, act with courage, care about others and recognise that they have the power to make a positive difference.
At ACT II, we are committed to helping every student discover their potential and grow into a thoughtful, capable and engaged global citizen.
